The Kids Are Alright

her view:

Similarly to Everybody's Fine, the kids are alright, but ooooh nelly, the parents are NOT. Annette Benning and Juliane Moore play lesbian parents to their two teenage, biological children. Picture: typical growing pains, mixed with a sperm donor wanna-be papa with lesbian parents who've forgotten how much they love each other.

I got a lot out of this movie. I know the type of parent I want to become, and the type of partner NOT to be. I thought it was well-written, I truly cared for the characters and felt for the kids. Before we went, I was a bit trepidatious that my better half wouldn't like it. It seemed a bit girly watching the trailers. It's not as girly as I thought it was. It was not a masculine movie by any stretch of the imagination, but the story was good and the acting was excellent.

It was engaging, involving and I found nothing wrong with it. I would recommend the movie, but isn't a theatre must see. I could definitely watch it curled up on the couch with some popcorn at home. A well done movie, but not a necessity to see.

Salt

her view:

First off, I am a HUGE Angelina Jolie fan. I love that she never does the same movie, and that she is (I think) a really great actor. She is absolutely stunning, and I think I would like to be her after watching this movie, as much as I wanted to be Demi Moore after seeing G.I. Jane (still one of my favourite movies of all time). She is tough, in terrific shape and gorgeous-who wouldn't want to be her?
Salt is an action movie. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a woman married to a husband she loves and a dog. She seems blissfully happy, despite various traumatic events in her past. Right from the start you aren't sure what her role is, exactly. It quickly becomes obvious what they want you to think, and off you go.

I enjoyed the movie, not only because it was action and Angelina Jolie, but also because through it all, Evelyn only seems to have concern for her husband. She just wants to make sure her husband is safe. There are some terrific stunts, some of which I understand were done by A.J. herself, some were obviously doubles. My favourite part of the show is seeing how freakishly large her feet actually are-seriously, quite masculine! She must be a very tall woman, because her hands have always seemed large to me, but suited to her. The feet come off the same way, but holy jumpin'!

I would recommend this movie for both men & women, because the action was great, the story was good-full of twists and turns, and, despite the cliffhanger ending that leaves the suggestion of a sequel, or perhaps a t.v. show, was a satisfying thrill ride.

And I didn't mind the preview for Paranormal Activity 2 at the start, either-so excited about that one!

I give this:

Female action movie! Need I say more except we don't get to see nudity when dealing with big stars like Angelina Jolie.

In comparison think Bourne Identity with a lot of cool chase/escape scenes and ass kicking! Jump from an overpass onto a truck, then jump to another truck, and then jump to ANOTHER truck...this is the type of tense action you can expect from “Salt

The movie has a twist like all good movies now a days but not the twist you may expect right off the bat. They also leave it open at the end so their could be a second movie or god forbid a cheaper TV version.

There are also great performances by Liev Schreiber (Who I always think of as Cotton Weary from the Scream movies) and Chiwetel Eljiofor (Who is sneaking to super star real fast with the help of his Kinky Boots).

Some of your girlfriends or wives may like this movie if they like Angelina Jolie movies.

I give Salt...

Twilight: Eclipse

her view:

Honestly, I wasn't excited to see this movie. There were some, I'll be kind, flaws in the first two movies that made it hard for me to work up any much enthusiasm to see this movie. Nonetheless, Friday night saw me taking in a late show with a girlfriend. Surprisingly the late show was busy-it's been a few weeks since it opened so we weren't expecting much of a crowd. At least it wasn't a theatre full of screaming teenage girls-there were some couples in the crowd, and I felt bad for the men.
***Note: guys, go see Predators, I promise you'll like it better!***

I was pleasantly surprised: they fixed most of the flaws from the other films, and injected some humour. Well done! I am now convinced that Edward may be the appropriate choice-I've always been pro-Jacob for the movies and pro-Edward for the books-and I am conflicted in the choices now. Good job guys!

There was enough eye candy for me to stay interested, and Kristen Stewart didn't annoy me nearly as much as she did in the previous films; although I was distracted by her fake eyelashes, and I hate that Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard. They should have made the "scheduling conflicts" work-Bryce's hair looked like a wig, and the role was quite a bit smaller than it could have been if Rachelle had remained in the role. Those were the only big things that bugged me about this movie, so that's not too bad!

I enjoyed Twilight: Eclipse enough to want to re-read the books to refresh my memory on the way the series ends. Breaking Dawn part one apparently comes out in November 2011, so I'll have some time to get worked up about it again. Maybe next year, if they have a marathon showing of the movies before they play the newest release I'll find a way to get there with a group of friends. Maybe.

I decided to watch the first 2 Twilight movies on DVD and I'm happy I did. As a guy I would not spend money to see them in the theater...UNLESS...I wanted to make my wife or girlfriend happy! Sorry guys I think some of you will have to see this movie...UNLESS...you can help/encourage a Girls Night Out! Then plan a Guys Night Out and go see Predators!

The one thing I like about the Twilight movies is the whole Native people can shape-shift thing!

But the acting in the first 2 movies was VERY bad and I'm getting tired of teenage coming of age movies now that I'm getting older.

So you guessed it I didn't see the pile of crap movie and I hope I don't have to see it on DVD. I'm rating this movie on the first 2 so...

Predators

her view

Ugh. What an utter waste of time. Time I will never get back. It was nap worthy, that's all I can say.

Adrian Brody as an action star just doesn't work for me; the plot was boring and ill-developed with little to engage the interest of the viewer. I felt no caring whatsoever for the welfare of the characters, and was willing to people gaze in the theater as opposed to actually watching the movie.

Let me just say: I actually enjoyed the Alien movies & the previous Predator movies-I haven't seen the first one, but the second one, Aliens vs Predator and AVP: Requiem were enjoyable and well worth my time. This is not a biased opinion simply because I'm a girl!

Not worth anymore effort dissecting it's faults-guys, this is a guy movie, don't drag your girl out to see it. Girls, go see Twilight: Eclipse instead.

The new Predators movie takes us back to the Jungle! You may think it's a remake of the original Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger but it has a few twists that a any true Predator fan will like.

Predators is a guy movie just like the original! Much more of a guy movie than the recent AVP movies and the Alien movies.

The fans will like the new facts we learn about the Predators...NO not going to say!

Main point of the movie...

Take a mixed group of the worlds deadliest killers, assassins, and bad asses. Mix in a crazy Laurence Fishburne and you get one great guy movie!

Great news is the new elements introduced about the Predators sets us up for many more Predators movies.

Adrian Brody is an interesting choice for the lead in this movie but I thought he did a great job and used a deep voice the whole time that works.

I always enjoy movies with that guy with the woman tattoo on his chest, Danny Trejo. We see him doing a drug lord type character from “Triple X”.

This is a guy movie-don't force your wife or girlfriend to go with you...go with the guys!

Inception

her view

Imagine your life was a dream. Imagine you didn't know you were dreaming. Imagine you couldn't find your way out or help yourself come back, or didn't realize you were trapped. What would you do? How would your mind react? This is the premise of Inception. What a complete mind fuck.

I loved it. It was brilliant and worth every penny to go and see. It was worth sitting in agony because I had too much soda drink and needed desperately to relieve myself for at least half of the movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was brilliant-but the more I see of him the more I forget his former life as a child star.

I couldn't even begin to describe the plot to you for fear of ruining something for you. Go see it. It was awesome. And I wasn't the only one to think so: the entire theatre had a reaction at the end of it. Go see it for yourself. Forget your life for a bit, and enter the world of dreams vs reality.

His View

Ok, I hate Leonardo DeCaprio!

I feel is best role to date has been Arnie Grape in What's Eating Gilbert Grape but in the last year I have seen two DeCaprio movies that were very good. Shutter Island was a very good movie, DeCaprio had a great performance. The other good DeCaprio movie I have seen this year is Inception.

Inception is an amazing movie!

Inception is a guy movie with guy movie action!

Inception is a mind f*ck and you will love it!

Do not bring your simple-minded friends to this movie because they will distract you with questions. This movie is hard to understand even for intelligent people. Someone that didn't like this movie just didn't understand it even if they think they're smart.

Ellen Page gives us a great performance in Inception though it's not the type of movie we expect from her.

Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is another great young actor that gives a great performance. Moving into more of an action role suits him. I hope to see more of this guy!

This movie is about group shared dreaming...so expect the crazy to happen. The main plot is a team of people that must implant a thought into a persons mind by having a group shared dream and then enter a dream within a dream and then another dream within a dream and so on. Then it just begins to get more and more confusing.

The end of this great movie WILL piss you off!

I give Inception only

The Sorcerer's Apprentice

her view

First, I am not a huge, die-hard fan of Nick Cage. Nevertheless, Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchelthere are very few movies that he's in I will not see. A bit contradictory, I know, but he picks good movies and is usually in them with good actors. This movie was the same. A great plot, barely reminiscent of the Disney vignette of The Sorcerer's Apprentice featuring Mickey Mouse from Fantasia, it was engaging and fun to watch. Jay Baruchel is my new favourite actor-he's funny and intelligent and easy to watch. He's a great foil for Nicholas Cage, and provided some much needed heart & comedy to this movie. I think that without him, this movie wouldn't be as magically.

Jay plays Dave, a 20-year old physics student trying to overcome a life changing event that occurred when he was 10. In his travels, he happens across the girl of his 10-year old dreams in a first year physics class he's teaching. Can we say this first encounter was awkward!? His next meeting is with Nicholas Cage's character, Balthazar, after he's pulled himself out of an urn that's dropped 20 stories and goes looking for Dave. Unfortunately, Balthazar isn't the only one released, nor is he the only one looking for Dave. He also isn't the first to find Dave. oops.

I found myself lost in this movie. I rooted for Dave, I cheered on Balthazar and booed Horvath (the bad guy). I cared about the characters, and appreciated the jokes in the movie. I recommend the movie for light hearted fun and a good story. The acting wasn't always fantastic, but it was good enough that I didn't feel cheated. It distinguished itself from the cartoon, and yet included a scene or two that reminded of the genius of the first.

His View

The Sorcerer's Apprentice features Nicolas Cage as a secondary character. Nicolas Cage is a Sorcerer looking for an apprentice that is destined to become the next Merlin. Cage is all the reason I would need to love this movie but Cage's career, I feel, is slowing down.

Nicolas Cage and Jerry Bruckheimer

The movie is centered around up and coming comedic actor Jay Baruchel's character the Apprentice. Jay Baruchel's career has been heating up in the last ten years with leading man roles in How to Train Your Dragon (voice), and the Trotsky. Baruchel, I feel, is the star to see in this film so if you like any of his past work you will love The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

No, this is not a traditional guy movie but it is a funny movie that you should grudgingly go to with your girlfriend or wife. I enjoyed it but feel it may be a better renter on the small screen despite the great CGI and big movie feel we have come to expect from Director Jon Turteltaub, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Disney.

For the hard core magic fans you may feel a little silly watching this movie because it's not a Dungeons and Dragons type magic world but King Arthur meets modern day convenience type magic. Modern day people or non-magic users can't see most of the magic so conveniently normal people can't see much of the craziness that is being cast.Jon Turteltaub and Jay Baruchel

Warning!!! there is a love story to this movie and frankly I felt it got in the way! Especially since the love interest in the movie can't act to save her life. Her blond hair for this movie looks very silly...you know silly like seeing Jessica Alba with blond hair.

Sorry to say I give The Sorcerer's Apprentice only
