The Kids Are Alright

her view:

Similarly to Everybody's Fine, the kids are alright, but ooooh nelly, the parents are NOT. Annette Benning and Juliane Moore play lesbian parents to their two teenage, biological children. Picture: typical growing pains, mixed with a sperm donor wanna-be papa with lesbian parents who've forgotten how much they love each other.

I got a lot out of this movie. I know the type of parent I want to become, and the type of partner NOT to be. I thought it was well-written, I truly cared for the characters and felt for the kids. Before we went, I was a bit trepidatious that my better half wouldn't like it. It seemed a bit girly watching the trailers. It's not as girly as I thought it was. It was not a masculine movie by any stretch of the imagination, but the story was good and the acting was excellent.

It was engaging, involving and I found nothing wrong with it. I would recommend the movie, but isn't a theatre must see. I could definitely watch it curled up on the couch with some popcorn at home. A well done movie, but not a necessity to see.

Salt

her view:

First off, I am a HUGE Angelina Jolie fan. I love that she never does the same movie, and that she is (I think) a really great actor. She is absolutely stunning, and I think I would like to be her after watching this movie, as much as I wanted to be Demi Moore after seeing G.I. Jane (still one of my favourite movies of all time). She is tough, in terrific shape and gorgeous-who wouldn't want to be her?
Salt is an action movie. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, a woman married to a husband she loves and a dog. She seems blissfully happy, despite various traumatic events in her past. Right from the start you aren't sure what her role is, exactly. It quickly becomes obvious what they want you to think, and off you go.

I enjoyed the movie, not only because it was action and Angelina Jolie, but also because through it all, Evelyn only seems to have concern for her husband. She just wants to make sure her husband is safe. There are some terrific stunts, some of which I understand were done by A.J. herself, some were obviously doubles. My favourite part of the show is seeing how freakishly large her feet actually are-seriously, quite masculine! She must be a very tall woman, because her hands have always seemed large to me, but suited to her. The feet come off the same way, but holy jumpin'!

I would recommend this movie for both men & women, because the action was great, the story was good-full of twists and turns, and, despite the cliffhanger ending that leaves the suggestion of a sequel, or perhaps a t.v. show, was a satisfying thrill ride.

And I didn't mind the preview for Paranormal Activity 2 at the start, either-so excited about that one!

His View

Female action movie! Need I say more except we don't get to see nudity when dealing with big stars like Angelina Jolie.

In comparison think Bourne Identity with a lot of cool chase/escape scenes and ass kicking! Jump from an overpass onto a truck, then jump to another truck, and then jump to ANOTHER truck...this is the type of tense action you can expect from “Salt

The movie has a twist like all good movies now a days but not the twist you may expect right off the bat. They also leave it open at the end so their could be a second movie or god forbid a cheaper TV version.

There are also great performances by Liev Schreiber (Who I always think of as Cotton Weary from the Scream movies) and Chiwetel Eljiofor (Who is sneaking to super star real fast with the help of his Kinky Boots).

Some of your girlfriends or wives may like this movie if they like Angelina Jolie movies.

I give Salt...

Twilight: Eclipse

her view:

Honestly, I wasn't excited to see this movie. There were some, I'll be kind, flaws in the first two movies that made it hard for me to work up any much enthusiasm to see this movie. Nonetheless, Friday night saw me taking in a late show with a girlfriend. Surprisingly the late show was busy-it's been a few weeks since it opened so we weren't expecting much of a crowd. At least it wasn't a theatre full of screaming teenage girls-there were some couples in the crowd, and I felt bad for the men.
***Note: guys, go see Predators, I promise you'll like it better!***

I was pleasantly surprised: they fixed most of the flaws from the other films, and injected some humour. Well done! I am now convinced that Edward may be the appropriate choice-I've always been pro-Jacob for the movies and pro-Edward for the books-and I am conflicted in the choices now. Good job guys!

There was enough eye candy for me to stay interested, and Kristen Stewart didn't annoy me nearly as much as she did in the previous films; although I was distracted by her fake eyelashes, and I hate that Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard. They should have made the "scheduling conflicts" work-Bryce's hair looked like a wig, and the role was quite a bit smaller than it could have been if Rachelle had remained in the role. Those were the only big things that bugged me about this movie, so that's not too bad!

I enjoyed Twilight: Eclipse enough to want to re-read the books to refresh my memory on the way the series ends. Breaking Dawn part one apparently comes out in November 2011, so I'll have some time to get worked up about it again. Maybe next year, if they have a marathon showing of the movies before they play the newest release I'll find a way to get there with a group of friends. Maybe.

His View

I decided to watch the first 2 Twilight movies on DVD and I'm happy I did. As a guy I would not spend money to see them in the theater...UNLESS...I wanted to make my wife or girlfriend happy! Sorry guys I think some of you will have to see this movie...UNLESS...you can help/encourage a Girls Night Out! Then plan a Guys Night Out and go see Predators!

The one thing I like about the Twilight movies is the whole Native people can shape-shift thing!

But the acting in the first 2 movies was VERY bad and I'm getting tired of teenage coming of age movies now that I'm getting older.

So you guessed it I didn't see the pile of crap movie and I hope I don't have to see it on DVD. I'm rating this movie on the first 2 so...
